Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient – Intermountain Health
Location: St James Hospital, Butte, Montana
Employment Type: Full‑time (40 hrs/week)
Pay: $20.22 – $30.81 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Shift Schedule40 hrs weekly on 10‑hr shifts (07:00‑17:30). Every third weekend.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)- Assist with all phases of pharmacy services under pharmacist supervision, as required by state regulations.
- Answer phones and provide excellent customer service at the practice site.
- Collect clinical patient information and maintain required records.
- Utilize pharmacy technology to prepare medication orders, perform calculations, and compound medications as per site protocols.
- Undergo supervision and accuracy checks by a pharmacist; understand when pharmacist verification is required.
- Accurately fill and manage medication supplies; monitor controlled substance inventories to ensure security and compliance.
- Package and label medications to minimize waste.
- Maintain pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness.
- Communicate with caregivers regarding responsibilities and concerns; identify safety hazards and report them to pharmacists.
- Participate in departmental meetings; provide feedback and ideas for process improvement.
- Promote Intermountain Health’s mission, vision, and values; adhere to service behavior standards.
- Deliver detail‑oriented, flexible care and complete advanced tasks within scope; perform additional duties assigned by management.
- Competent in technical responsibilities; seeks appropriate training and peer feedback.
- Understanding and compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Support financial responsibilities within the department and facility.
- Deliver medications, information, and service professionally and timely; engage in team goals and projects.
- Attain regular attendance; may be required to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Effective communication within a multi‑functional team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Google); willingness to learn new applications.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification applicable to the practice site.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current pharmacy technician certification or license applicable to state of practice.
- Current knowledge of pharmacy regulations and controlled‑substance laws.
- Candidate must be at least 17 years old.
- Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program (state‑specific license requirements apply).
- Good basic computer skills and attention to detail.
- Carrying, lifting, manual dexterity, pushing/pulling, hearing, speaking, standing, walking, reaching, and other functional abilities required to perform job duties.
