The coach shall foster the quest for excellence by assisting in creating an educational and competitive experience for student athletes within an atmosphere of sportsmanship; by optimizing the full potential of the team and individuals, while promoting high standards of competence, character, self-confidence, and citizenship.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities- Possess a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies, practices, and procedures and implement these as required
- Possess knowledge of, and complies with all state, conference, league rules and regulations of the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) and the Cabot School Board, and ensure that all aspects of the program are in compliance
- Attend conferences, workshops and clinics in order to stay updated on all aspects of the program/sport
- Confirm that all participants have passed an AAA sport specific physical exam and have completed and submitted all required forms
- Submit names for SIP and follow all guidelines for SIP as set by the AAA
- Develop and communicate criteria for selection to appropriate teams (Varsity or Junior Varsity)
- Conduct appropriate try‑outs for all candidates
- Select team members and communicate in a timely and sensitive manner to participants in tryouts
- Maintain and report game results, statistics, etc. and submit all requirements through AAA and Max Preps
- Schedule games and transportation
- Schedule facilities for practice
- Supervise all football events including junior varsity, junior high and seventh grade games
- Ensure that all football coaches work together toward a common goal within the football program and provide unity with the feeder schools
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
- Maintain, file, and copy all pertinent eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensure that the district and AAA guidelines are followed
- Monitor student athletes’ grades and attendance regularly
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers, and Director of Athletics
- Promote our program and student‑athletes
- Encourage and support our student‑athletes that choose to participate in multiple‑sports and activities
- Contact the parent/legal guardian of a student when an athlete is ineligible and when disciplinary actions occur
- Responsible for maintaining the football budget and communicating needs to the AD
- Plan and implement both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight training programs, as agreed upon by the Strength and Conditioning Coach
- Communicate with the athletic training staff regarding all injury protocols and return to play procedures
- Adhere to all district policies and the Code‑Of‑Ethics for Arkansas Educators
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator, Athletic Director, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent
- Knowledge and understanding of the basic and advanced aspects of the sport
- Knowledge of assessment techniques and monitoring strategies to identify student/athlete’s efforts, performance, strengths and weakness
- Knowledge of motivational techniques and strategies needed to improve individual and team performance
- Ability to supervise and provide leadership and vision for the sport and for the other coaches/teams under his or her supervision
