Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

• Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations.
• Transport students, teachers, and others on school field or activity trips.
• Inspect assigned bus daily prior to transporting passengers to ensure it is in good, clean, and safe working order.
• Clean and refuel bus as needed.
• Ensure communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
• Report all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections.
• Arrange for and ensure completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transport bus to and from maintenance/repair facilities.
• Maintain order and discipline among students in a courteous manner, in accordance with district policies; report any student discipline incidents.
• Observe and track route timing (total time en-route, stops, loading/unloading times) for route efficiency as requested.
• Maintain and submit records and reports as required.
• Follow procedures to ensure no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision; ensure all children have departed at the end of routes.
• Inventory emergency and first aid supplies; report needs to the Director.
• Prepare aides and children for bus drills; ensure drills are held as required.
• Evacuate children according to written procedures during emergencies.
• Follow medical emergency procedures and complete reports as required.
• Attend and participate in trainings.
• Adhere to all district policies.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Transportation and administrators.

• Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and road signs.
• Ability to operate a bus safely.
• Visual and auditory acuity within normal ranges, with correction if needed.

• Physical ability to move through the bus.

Qualifications

• Motor Vehicle Operator's License required.
• Current CDL, class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
• Successful background checks.
