Job Title:

Tax Quality Reviewer

Supervisory Responsibility:
Reports to the Tax Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Tax Quality Reviewer supports low-to-moderate income individuals and families by preparing and reviewing tax returns as part of the IRS-certified VITA/TCE NMCAA Free Tax Program. This role involves IRS training, tax software use, client interaction, and ensuring quality standards while connecting clients with additional community services.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Participate in provided IRS training and certification required for this position.
  • Complete 40 paid hours of IRS-approved coursework and testing to become certified for quality review of tax returns.
  • Assess client needs for tax preparation services via phone, walk-in, or scheduled appointments. Conduct pre-screening and assist with the application process for the Free Tax Preparation Program.
  • Prepare and file tax returns using Tax Slayer software, focusing on credits such as the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, Homestead Property Tax Credit, Home Heating Credit, and Education Credits.
  • Secure client consent and signatures for tax return submission and finalize the e-filing process.
  • Ensure all tax returns are quality reviewed weekly and that returns with proper consent are e-filed daily.
  • Provide general program support, which may include scheduling appointments, answering client inquiries, conducting intake interviews, preparing drop-off returns, meeting with clients in person, and promoting additional Financial Management Services resources.
  • Work closely with a committed team to support efficient operations and a positive client experience within the Free Tax Prep Program.
  • Represent the NMCAA Tax Program professionally and knowledgeably, while connecting clients with other relevant NMCAA programs when appropriate.

Education and Experience:
  • An associate degree or higher in Business, Finance, or Human Services is preferred.
