Description
The successful post holder will be a highly motivated team player with previous medical secretarial experience, possessing sound administrative and clerical skills. Excellent computer literacy is essential, including use of Microsoft Office, Med Sec, CWS and relevant databases. The role requires high organisation, self‑motivation, flexibility and excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a clear understanding of patient confidentiality and the ability to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities- Type correspondence, clinic letters and reports accurately within time limits set by departmental standards.
- Audio‑type any other correspondence, letters and reports relating to surgery, requiring knowledge of medical terminology.
- Keep the consultant’s diary electronically and arrange meetings as required, ensuring consultants are fully briefed of upcoming commitments.
- Monitor sickness absence on behalf of the Clinical Director.
- Take minutes of departmental meetings and coordinate meetings, requiring clear and concise communication.
- Administer advertising and payment of courses and conferences run by the department.
Previous medical secretarial experience and strong administrative and clerical skills. Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Med Sec, CWS and relevant databases. Highly organized, self‑motivated, flexible, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 back‑dated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.
