Person Specification Personal attributes- Essential: Basic food hygiene or agreement to pass the course within 3 months of appointment.
- Desirable: Training in food production or food service skills.
- Desirable: Training in Health and Safety, e.g., moving and handling or first aid.
- Desirable: Training in selling skills.
- Desirable: Experience of being employed in a food production environment.
- Desirable: Good interpersonal skills.
- Desirable: Good communication skills.
- Essential: Ability to work as part of a team (School team and kitchen team).
- Desirable: Self‑motivated, happy disposition.
- Listening and Speaking – Entry Level: Able to pronounce place and personal names correctly; follow instructions and understand simple conversation in Welsh and English.
- Reading and Understanding – Entry Level: Able to read and understand short letters, emails, leaflets, and signs in Welsh and English on familiar issues, and convey them to others.
- Writing – Entry Level: Able to write simple messages requesting or giving information about familiar workplace issues.
Purpose of the Post
- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
- Preparation of simple food for breakfast, service of food, setting up and clearing the dining room. Wash equipment and clean the kitchen and dining room.
- Commit to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.
- Equipment
- Work under the direction of the Cook in Charge or the Deputy.
- Preparation of simple food for breakfast and serve the food.
- Keep all kitchen and dining room area clean.
- Clean dining room floor, removing all traces of food with a damp mop if necessary.
- Carry out general kitchen duties including washing dishes, setting and clearing equipment and dining room furniture.
- Be in charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Cook in Charge during the breakfast session.
- Maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness and wear suitable clean overalls.
- Comply with Gwynedd Council Health and Safety Policy and Food Safety Policy.
- Perform any other relevant duties following a reasonable request.
- Responsible for self‑development.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace according to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Council policy.
- Operate within the Council's equal opportunities and equality policies.
- Manage information according to the Council’s information management guidelines and Data Protection legislation.
- Commit to reducing Council's carbon emissions following the Carbon Management Plan.
- Undertake reasonable duties that correspond to salary and responsibility level.
- Report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
