Qualified ALN Teacher (Additional Learning Needs Teacher) with QTS is required for a full‑time, long‑term role in Caerphilly, with a pay rate of £177.23 - 185.00 per day.

What Does an ALN Teacher Do?

An ALN Teacher supports students who require additional help accessing education due to learning difficulties, disabilities, or behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored and differentiated lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Support students with conditions such as autism (ASD),
    ADHD
    , dyslexia
    , and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs)
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support engagement and progress
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Create and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) in line with the ALN framework in Wales
  • Plan and deliver high‑quality, differentiated lessons for ALN students
  • Provide 1:1 support and small group interventions
  • Develop, implement and review Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting strategies where needed
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, parents and external agencies
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging classroom environment
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience working with ALN / SEN students in a school or specialist setting
  • Understanding of the ALN Code for Wales (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ASD, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable teaching approach
