Behaviour Mentor & Learning Support Practitioner

Location: Secondary School, Caerphilly

Pay: £600 per week via PAYEE weekly pay

Contract: Long‑Term Placement for Academic year

Start date: 7th of September 2026

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Mentor & Learning Support Practitioner to join a specialist provision. Based separately from a mainstream secondary school, a nurturing setting supports Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils with additional learning needs (ALN), social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, and experiences of trauma. They deliver a tailored curriculum, drawing on primary and secondary approaches to meet each learner's individual needs.

This is far more than a support role. It's an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, provide consistency and encouragement, and help young people develop the confidence, skills, and resilience they need to thrive.

The Role
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with ALN and trauma‑related needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing, and personal growth.
  • Support pupils in managing emotions, developing coping strategies, and making positive choices.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver personalised learning programmes.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and celebrate individual achievements, however small.

Essential Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (support available if required).
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register (guidance provided).
  • Two recent professional references from employers or relevant roles.
