An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Development Management Team as a Planning Enforcement Officer.
This role involves working as part of a well-supported team of skilled professional officers and handling a busy and varied caseload of enforcement matters. You will deal with all stages of the planning enforcement process, including investigating alleged breaches of planning control and non‑compliance, undertaking site visits, assessing expediency, and seeking to resolve matters through negotiation where appropriate. The role will also involve writing reports, maintaining accurate enforcement records, preparing and serving formal notices, and supporting the Council in appeals and, where necessary, legal proceedings including the preparation of evidence and attendance at hearings.
Ideally, you will have a degree in town planning or a closely related discipline. Experience of planning enforcement and a sound knowledge of planning legislation is desirable; however, we are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable skills, relevant experience and a genuine interest in developing a career in planning enforcement.
You will be a strong team player who can contribute positively to the team and demonstrate initiative and sound judgment when dealing with a wide range of often complex and sensitive issues. You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work proactively with a variety of stakeholders and deliver a high‑quality and customer‑focused service.
Welsh speaking and writing skills are desirable. We will also support new and existing employees who wish to learn Welsh or improve/develop their Welsh language skills.
