The Client Our client is a South Wales-based charity seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for a six-month fixed-term contract. The role will support accurate, compliant payroll delivery and maintain strong financial controls across payroll and related finance processes. The role Take responsibility for the accurate and timely delivery of the organisations monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements, pension regulations, employment legislation and internal policies.
Manage the end-to-end payroll process, from data collection through to payroll completion and bank file preparation. Maintain payroll records, process starters, leavers and contractual changes, complete RTI submissions, administer pension auto-enrolment and monthly pension uploads. Process statutory payments, salary adjustments, overtime claims and ad hoc payments. Ensure payroll costs are accurately allocated across departments and projects. Prepare and post monthly payroll journals, complete payroll reconciliations and support year-end payroll processes.
Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, manage the payroll inbox and respond to colleague enquiries in a timely and professional manner. Liaise with HMRC and pension providers to resolve payroll-related queries. Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and user experience. Provide finance support, including administering employee expenses, processing and reconciling credit card and charge card transactions, processing recurring invoices, supporting month-end activities, assisting with year-end information and audit requests, and providing wider Finance Team support when required.
About you Experienced payroll professional who can quickly establish themselves as a trusted and reliable member of the Finance Team. Strong knowledge of payroll administration, payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, RTI submissions, workplace pensions and auto-enrolment processes. E xperience processing statutory payments, payroll adjustments, payroll reconciliations and payroll journals. Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy. S trong organisational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Confident handling confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently. Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills. Ability to identify and implement process improvements. Desirable:
Experience using payroll software, experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector, a payroll, finance or accounting qualification such as CIPP, AAT or equivalent, and the ability to communicate in Welsh would be advantageous.
