Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the Job This is a part-time opportunity offering genuine payroll responsibility, making it particularly well suited to an experienced payroll professional seeking reduced hours without moving into a junior or purely administrative role. You will take ownership of a four-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate processing, thorough reconciliation and compliance with UK payroll requirements. You will also support purchase ledger and wider finance administration when required.
Duties will include:
Taking ownership of accurate and timely payroll processing. Completing payroll reconciliations and investigating discrepancies. Processing sickness information and completing holiday calculations. Resolving payroll queries and maintaining accurate records. Keeping up to date with UK payroll legislation and applying relevant changes. Using Excel extensively for reconciliations, data checks and analysis. Supporting purchase ledger and general accounts administration. Working closely with finance colleagues and the wider branch network.
Using Cascade and an industry-specific legacy system, with training provided on unfamiliar systems. About the Successful Applicant You will ideally have at least two years' practical payroll experience, with the confidence to take ownership rather than simply process data. Strong Excel skills, particularly for reconciliations and data checking, and a sound understanding of UK payroll legislation are important. You will be accurate, organised and inquisitive, naturally investigating discrepancies and resolving queries.
Purchase ledger experience is useful but not essential, and no formal payroll qualification is required. What You Will Receive in Return The basic salary is £22,000–£24,500 per annum , negotiable depending on experience and skills. Based on the reduced hours, this represents a strong full-time equivalent salary. You will work 27.5 hours per week , completing 5.5 hours each day Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work those hours between 8:30am and 5:00pm .
Please note that this position is fully office based in Andover five days per week . Benefits include private medical insurance on a 50/50 premium contribution basis, an auto-enrolment pension scheme, 20 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays increasing to 25 days over time, staff and family discounts, a Refer a Friend Scheme, and a Driving Lesson Assistance Scheme providing financial support towards driving lessons.
