Where will you be working? At M Group Energy, were enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation. This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing:
Were recruiting for a Portfolio Manager to join us in our Substations department to look after our projects in our South Wales region . You'll be responsible for the strategic oversight, governance, and delivery of a portfolio of substation projects. This role ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and aligned with organisational strategy and regulatory requirements, while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the portfolio.

Define and implement the portfolio strategy for substation projects aligned with business objectives. Prioritise and balance projects based on risk, value, regulatory commitments, and resource availability. Develop long-term capital investment plans in collaboration with senior stakeholders. Establish and maintain governance frameworks for project execution, ensuring consistency and compliance. Oversee delivery performance across multiple substation projects (new build, upgrades, refurbishments). Monitor progress against milestones, budgets, and KPIs;

intervene where necessary to recover performance. Champion a strong safety cultureacross all projects. Ensure all projects adhere to industry standards. Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, and cost control mechanisms. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide transparent reporting to executive leadership and clients. Act as the senior escalation point for complex project issues. Ensure effective allocation of skilled resources across projects (engineering, project management, commissioning).

Identify, assess, and mitigate portfolio-level risks (technical, commercial, regulatory). Drive standardisation and best practices in substation design and delivery. What youll bring Previous project management experience gained within electrical infrastructure Extensive experience in energy infrastructure, particularly substation (HV/MV) design, construction, or delivery. Strong understanding of transmission/distribution systems and grid operations. Proven track record managing large-scale project portfolios (£multi-million or £bn scale preferred).

Experience working within regulated environments Familiarity with NEC contracts or equivalent. Full UK driving licence
