Competitive Package (DOE) Commission Company Car About the Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and commercially focused Business Development Manager to join a growing freight forwarding business. This role is ideal for an experienced sales professional with a proven background in sea freight and logistics, particularly import FCL services. Working closely with internal operations and commercial teams, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth, developing strategic customer relationships, and securing new business opportunities across the UK.
Key Responsibilities Identify, target, and secure new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, market research, networking, and referrals. Promote the company's import sea freight services and wider logistics solutions to prospective customers. Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline, converting leads into profitable long-term business relationships. Arrange and attend face-to-face meetings, virtual appointments, and telephone consultations with potential clients. Develop tailored proposals, presentations, and commercial solutions that meet customer requirements.
Negotiate and close new business agreements while maximising profitability. Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers to encourage retention, growth, and repeat business. Manage your sales territory effectively, planning and scheduling appointments to maximise opportunities. Record customer interactions, visit reports, and sales activity accurately within the company CRM system. Attend internal sales and business review meetings, providing updates on pipeline activity and key opportunities.
Monitor sales performance against agreed targets and consistently achieve KPIs relating to revenue growth, profitability, customer visits, and sales activity. About You To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Excellent understanding of international freight, global supply chains, and transport solutions. Proven success within a business development or field sales role in freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics. The ability to work independently while effectively managing priorities and sales activities. Outstanding communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. A strong track record of selling import Full Container Load (FCL) services. Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
