About the Job

The Regional Project Manager is responsible for managing capital spending projects, major outages, and minor maintenance projects at the MLC plants in Calera, AL, Vicksburg, MS, and Chester, NC. They work closely with the Director of Project Management, plant managers, and plant leaders to complete projects.

  • Supervise and lead the capital spending processes on assigned projects; project justification, implementation, and execution are the primary functions of the role.
  • Quickly perform preliminary feasibility studies; oversee and manage engineering resources to ensure project success; ensure product and process compliance with all MSHA requirements.
  • Identify stakeholders on each project, communicate with them, and define what success looks like to each of them; provide timely feedback on project costs and progress.
  • Provide construction management supervision and represent MLC in the project construction phase; ensure MLC Engineering standards, Project Management standards, and Safety standards are followed throughout the entire project timeline; define scopes of work and provide estimates of construction and engineering costs for projects.
  • Develop bid packages for assigned projects; solicit bids, issue requisitions for materials or contractors; issue project schedules and periodic reports on capital project activities in accordance with established policy.
  • Maintain compliance with all State and Federal Environmental Laws and Regulations in design of repairs to equipment or installation of new systems.
  • Communicate activities with other corporate functions including Safety and Health, Environmental Affairs, Purchasing and Sales to ensure timely information exchange and coordination of work; work with purchasing to acquire quotations for equipment and services.
  • Generate and provide for each project a final project documentation package which includes all as-built drawings and suggested spare parts with pricing / lead times.
  • Track project costs and notify appropriate spending approaches approved spending limits in accordance with established policy. Report costs monthly on active projects, notifying management immediately if the project will go over cost by excess of 10%; ensure that when the project is almost over, all stakeholders are satisfied, and the project meets the design criteria.
  • Provide assistance with regional plant shutdowns; accept assignments from the Area Plant Manager, Leader, or Maintenance Manager.
  • Develop capability within operators – provide technical expertise and training to assist operations. Develop systems to train and transfer support of plant requirements to operators and supervisors to improve operating discipline in order to begin cost savings/improvement projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    Minimum 4 Year STEM Bachelor’s Degree (Mech. Eng. Preferred)
  • Experience:

    Minimum 8 years of experience with at least 5 years of experience in the mining or heavy industrial field.
  • Skills:
    Respond decisively to emergencies as well as exercise sound judgment in problem solving. Excellent communication and writing skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, creativity, organizational abilities, professionalism, and ethics.
  • Abilities:
    Ability to effectively communicate with all functional groups and through all levels of MLC Personnel & Management. Utilizes project management and other engineering tools to optimize project execution.
