Job Description
The CNC Machinist will operate CNC machines (lathes, VTL and mills). The Machinist’s primary responsibilities are to set up, machine, and check products, and keep production items running through the machine areas with quantity and quality acceptable to company standards. Demonstrate productive output by running equipment at a production pace and completing changeovers in a timely manner. May also perform additional responsibilities including cell support, finishing, and polishing.
The Machinist will work closely with the quality department and project coordinators.
Scope Of Responsibilities
- Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members
- Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
- Wears appropriate PPE, including fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection
- Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area and maintaining a safe and clean work environment
- Proactively promotes the McWane Way Principles
- Responsible for loading and unloading parts, deburring parts, and starting and stopping machines
- Reads blueprints, uses measuring devices, and changes, manipulates, and inserts programs
- Changes inserts, touches off tools, loads new fixtures, and retrieves accurate pre-written programs
- Modifies basic G-code and operates CNC equipment and manual machines
- Maintains shop equipment
- Maintains stock materials and supplies for day-to-day tasks
- Demonstrates quality craftsmanship and continuous improvement to produce high-quality components
- Maintains fluid levels of the assigned machine during operation
- Follows all company policies regarding safety, quality control, regulatory and materials handling
- Receives training on CNC operations, including set up of machines for production and current documentation practices
- Participates in ongoing process improvements
- Inspects parts to specifications using precision measuring devices
- Records production and maintains count cards
- CAM programming preferred
- Machines complex and high-precision parts in metal and plastic
- May perform additional cell responsibilities as required
Work Environment
- Stand, walk, and use hands to handle tools; communicate verbally and hear instructions
- Occasionally reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Lift up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depth perception, and color distinction
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a CNC Machinist role
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associates or higher in machining or technical field preferred
- Computer skills required
Position Requirements
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting
- Must wear appropriate PPE (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, mask)
- Work in heat, cold, noise, and vibration; dust and fumes exposure
- Must be able to operate forklift or overhead crane
- Overtime and extended hours may be required
- Work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises
- Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance
Additional Information
- 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm
- Hourly rate: $24.65–$40.53
