Position: MPI Calera - Pipe Fab Machine Operator I-II

Job Description

MPI Calera is seeking experienced Machine Operators for Pipe Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operators are responsible for measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit and facing the flange on pieces of ductile or steel pipe. They use manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders, and operate machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the assigned work area.
  • Promote the McWane Way principles proactively.
  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Waterman Safety Management Program.
  • Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.
  • Operate a forklift to move pipe inside/outside the plant.
  • Operate the pipe cut‑off saw.
  • Test the flange after threads are cut to ensure proper screwing onto the pipe.
  • Apply glue to pipe and flange and use the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.
  • For threaders, remove pipe from machine and move to the next processing operation.
  • For lathes, run the cutting tool across the surface of the face of the flange to flush‑fit the flange onto the pipe.
  • Work with pipe and flanges primarily from 3″ to 24″ in diameter, and lengths from 6 inches to 18 feet.
  • Meet prescribed production output objectives for the work center.
  • Paint and package finished product.
  • Use basic math, read a tape measure and micrometer accurately.
  • Understand machinery processes.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Help and volunteer across a variety of different machines.
  • Maintain a positive, hard‑working, and effective attitude.
Work Environment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle tools or controls.
  • Required to communicate verbally and in writing (English).
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Adhere to wearing appropriate PPE (steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • Work in dust and fumes.
  • Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
  • Possess knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • Meet specific vision requirements (close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color discernment).
  • Operate a forklift and obtain certification.
Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience as a machine operator in manufacturing preferred.
  • Computer skills.
Position Requirements
  • Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
  • Must adhere to PPE requirements (steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, mask).
  • Work in conditions of heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
  • Must work in dust and fumes.
  • Must operate forklift or overhead crane.
  • Possible overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
  • Have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
Additional Information

Shift schedules:
1st

Shift: M‑F 6:30 am – 3:00 pm
2nd Shift: M‑TH 2:00 pm – 12:30 am

Hourly Rate: $23.00 – $28.48
