Job Description
The Maintenance Tech II performs individual, technical tasks and specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily carry out the job's functions. You will operate equipment used in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, plan and manage projects, prepare and maintain accurate records, follow safety practices, and handle hazardous materials. This position will report to the Plant Superintendent and will work closely with machinists and other plant floor team members.
Scopeof Responsibilities
- Ensure personal safety and the safety of your team members.
- Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Wear appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
- Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.
- Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures for identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
- Clean coolant tanks, grease and oil machinery; preventative maintenance.
- Inspects electrical systems and their components to evaluate conditions, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
- Repairs electrical components and/or systems (e.g., motors, circuits, transformers, generators, compressors, switches, equipment, etc.) to ensure a safe & reliable working condition.
- Welds components as needed.
- Works on continuous improvement projects.
- Read and interpret hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical blueprints and schematics, including troubleshooting and PLC programming.
- Preserve equipment in good working order by following operating instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, keeping supplies on hand, regularly performing preventive maintenance and promptly scheduling repairs.
- Work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods and follow detailed job-specific instructions to ensure processes and procedures are followed efficiently and productively.
- Coordinate with supervisor, leads, and/or other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Informs personnel about procedures and/or the status of work orders to provide information for decision-making, appropriate action, and compliance with health and building regulations.
- Requests equipment and supplies for maintaining inventory and ensuring the availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure the availability of materials required at the job site.
- Communicates with department leaders, leads, and/or supervisors to coordinate installations or repairs.
- Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
- Works with the team to reduce / eliminate bottlenecks to reach team goals.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
- The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and determine and distinguish color.
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- Electrical certification preferred.
- Experience in PLC software and operating systems, with the ability to program, troubleshoot, and diagnose input and output card failures and reset run fault errors is preferred.
- 3+ years demonstrated industrial maintenance experience.
- Completion of an Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance program/vocational school in a similar technical program, or apprenticeship program is required.
- Three or more years’ experience in industrial maintenance or as an industrial electrician may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
- Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).
- Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
- Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
- Must have the ability to operate forklift or overhead crane.
- Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
- Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
1st Shift M-F 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
