We are looking for a motivated Junior / Staff Accountant who wants to build a career in public accounting. This position offers broad hands‑on exposure to bookkeeping, year‑end accounting, financial statement preparation, personal and corporate taxation, GST/HST, and client files.
We welcome applications from accounting students, recent graduates, CPA candidates, and early‑career accountants with relevant experience
. Previous public accounting experience is not required for an entry‑level candidate. The successful candidate's starting level and responsibilities will be determined based on experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated capabilities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual bookkeeping using Quick Books Online, Quick Books Desktop, and Microsoft Excel.
- Complete bank, credit card, accounts receivable, accounts payable, GST/HST, and other account reconciliations.
- Assist with year‑end accounting and preparation of financial statements under CSRS 4200.
- Prepare year‑end adjusting entries, including depreciation, accruals, prepaid expenses, unearned revenue, payroll/T4 reconciliations, GST reconciliations, and corporate tax accruals.
- Prepare supporting working papers and investigate account discrepancies.
- Prepare personal income tax returns involving rental properties, self‑employment income, investments, capital gains/losses, and foreign property reporting.
- Assist with preparation of corporate income tax returns.
- Prepare GST/HST returns using the regular and Quick Method where applicable.
- Take on increasingly complex files and responsibilities as your knowledge and experience develop.
- Currently enrolled in or graduated from an accounting program.
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits and credits
. - Strong academic performance in accounting‑related courses.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Quick Books or other accounting software is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and apply what you have learned.
- Dependable, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
- Genuine interest in developing a career in accounting and taxation.
