Role Overview
We are currently seeking a versatile and committed Legal Assistant to join our Calgary Litigation team.
This fast‑paced, dynamic role offers a broad range of responsibilities and challenges that will utilize strong litigation and practice management skills. The position requires a superstar organizer with technical knowledge to handle complex files from start‑to‑finish. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, strong communication and organization skills, and a desire to work in a client‑focused culture.
Key Responsibilities- Provides secretarial support which includes proofreading, revision and preparation of documentation under the instruction of the legal professionals and transcription of data from various sources (voicemail, dictation, etc.).
- Acts as a liaison between relevant internal and/or external parties, routing or answering routine correspondence to relevant parties.
- Provides clerical, administrative and general office support including, but not limited to, photocopying, faxing, scheduling and calendar management, receiving/placing phone calls with internal and/or external parties, mail, organizing travel arrangements, and scanning PDF documents.
- Provides administrative support with respect to accounting and billing as required, including review of pre‑bills, making corrections or advising Accounting to make corrections and mailing out final bill under a cover letter, preparing expense requisitions, etc.
- Maintains files in accordance with standard procedures, including opening and closing files, conflict searches, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Community College Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent combination of experience.
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant.
- Experience in Civil Litigation (Federal and Superior Court procedures) will be considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with the flexibility to accommodate work demands.
- Excellent organizational/follow‑up skills.
- Proofreading and accuracy are required.
- Excellent ability to learn new computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise discretion when necessary.
