The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We provide a safe, caring and comfortable home for senior residents and families, and we also operate Alberta’s largest second‑stage shelter in Calgary, offering safe shelter and support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role

The Receptionist supports daily operations through a range of clerical and reception duties, upholding BSF’s Mission, Vision and Values while promoting a culture of resident safety and freedom from harm.

key Responsibilities
  • Operate a multi‑line switchboard, answer phone inquiries and route all incoming calls and messages.
  • Greet visitors, receive routine inquiries in person, make appointments, arrange, conduct and record all tours of the Manor.
  • Maintain reception departmental files and records, including correspondence, forms and routine office records and reports.
  • Receive incoming mail, coordinate departmental distribution and process outgoing mail and courier deliveries.
  • Arrange taxi pick‑up and return for residents, visitors or guests when necessary.
  • Oversee bookings for meetings and conference rooms.
  • Update resident lists and directories weekly and distribute to departments.
  • Word‑process various forms, documents, lists, reports, records, memoranda, letters or other typing assignments; check and proofread typed material for accuracy.
  • Type, proofread and distribute various meeting minutes and agendas.
  • Complete compulsory education modules as scheduled (within six months of hire, within 3 months of significant updates or revisions to training materials, and annually thereafter).
  • Prepare monthly Activities & Recreation Calendars.
  • Enter data into Avanti as provided by Education.
  • Assist with the sale of visitor and staff meal vouchers.
  • Assign and activate parking/door fobs.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Ensure infection prevention and control standards are implemented and maintained.

Education
  • Grade 12 Diploma or approved equivalent.
Experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive MS Office computer skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask and prioritise tasks at hand.
  • Strong work ethic, time management and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to handle constant interruptions.
