Opportunity
Come join our long term care team! Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre is seeking a Unit Clerk for employment (shifts available as required for replacement of full time staff). As the Unit Clerk, you are a central support of our team and the residents on the units. Responsibilities and functions include computer/administrative duties, use of computer systems (site currently using Connect Care EMR), processing orders as requested by physicians and nursing staff, answering phones and directing calls.
Assisting long term care residents may include portering and feeding residents at our LTC site. Successful candidates will be required to work from 0700–1515; scheduled hours may change. This position is located outside of the Calgary city limits (100 km south of Calgary), 80 km north of Lethbridge.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also handle a variety of administrative tasks, including reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders, and scheduling patient tests and/or treatments.
You will perform a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk/Medical Office Assistant course.
- Experience working in a continuing care setting.
- Good computer skills and knowledge of programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Office and Connect Care.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members.
- Well‑developed time‑management skills.
- Ability to handle the physical demands of the position: pushing wheelchairs, sitting for extended periods, answering phones, lifting supplies, assisting residents.
- Medical terminology course.
- NVCI certification.
- Dementia Care Training Certificate.
