We ensure we are providing legal and strategic services to government by representing ministries in matters before the courts and tribunals, and drafting public government bills, regulations and orders‑in‑council.

The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service Division at the Ministry of Justice is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a part of their team. The Ministry of Justice is seeking a highly motivated receptionist in their Calgary Crown Prosecutors’ Office to provide administrative support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences, including but not limited to the Criminal Code of Canada and the Traffic Safety Act.

Reporting to the Disclosure Unit Supervisor, the Receptionist plays a key role in supporting the operations of the Crown office. This position is essential to ensuring prosecutors are well‑prepared for court proceedings. Responsibilities include processing incoming and outgoing mail, photocopying and document handling, and providing other administrative services that are required to ensure branch goals and objectives are met.

Responsibilities
  • Providing central services support including a centralized mail distribution / disclosure pick‑up centre at the Calgary Crown Prosecutors’ Office.
  • Providing administrative support to Crown Prosecutors and client services to approximately 130 staff members, Provincial Court, and General Public.
  • Using tools such as Word, Outlook, PRISM, JOIN, e‑Crim and other resources as required.
  • Working in a high volume, demanding environment and managing competing priorities in tight timelines.
  • Maintaining professionalism when working with Crown Prosecutors, Defense Counsel or the General Public.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma and a minimum of one year of related experience, preferably in a legal secretarial context.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Justice System.

Assets

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook), PRISM, JOIN and e‑Crim.
  • Post‑secondary Legal Assistant diploma or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the POPA, Criminal Code of Canada and Traffic Safety Act.
