About the TeamThe Defence Industry Relations team leads relationships with industry stakeholders to acquire insight and industry intelligence in priority sectors, supporting JETI’s economic growth vision and job creation mandate.
Role OverviewThis Senior Industry Development Officer supports the defence team by undertaking research, analysis, and project coordination to inform strategic decision‑making on major aerospace and defence investment projects, economic policy, and strategy development.
The incumbent works within the Industry Relations unit, supporting investment concierge services, grant administration, and the preparation and delivery of programs and initiatives focused on Alberta entrepreneurs, SMEs, and job creators.
Responsibilities- Respond to department briefing requirements and stakeholder information requests to support key ministry outcomes related to industry growth, job creation, and investment.
- Support Aerospace and Defence initiatives.
- Acquire and disseminate information on emerging trends, industry policies, issues, and programs to support informed planning and decision‑making.
- Agility: Exercises due diligence, good judgment while thinking critically and strategically when engaging stakeholder clients, striving for continuous improvement in industry intelligence acquisition efforts.
- Drive for Results: Proactively conducts research and environmental scanning to build awareness of industry trends and issues at provincial, national, and international levels.
- Develop Networks: Builds and maintains industry and organizational relationships to support collaborative approaches with key stakeholders.
- Build Collaborative Environments: Plays a key supporting role in developing an information‑driven knowledge‑base approach focused on key industry sector opportunities amid disruptions and a constantly changing operational environment.
Minimum Recruitment Standards: University graduation in Business, Economics, Arts, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field, plus four years of related experience. Experience in the aerospace and defence sector is an asset.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Applicants must attach a cover letter describing experience working with the defence sector or a similarly complex, highly regulated industry.
- Related private or public sector experience in industry development, regional economic development, investment attraction, and supply chain and logistics knowledge.
- Strong communication skills, written and oral, and experience in writing reports and executive briefing materials.
- High degree of discretion, judgment, and professionalism; ability to function well in a high‑performing team‑based environment demanding interpersonal skills and collaborative relationship building.
- Ability to complete tasks independently and within allocated timelines.
- High proficiency with MS Office applications and database management.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s economy, key industry sectors and stakeholders, and Alberta’s competitive economic position in Canada, North America and global economies.
- Knowledge of government programs supporting entrepreneurs, job creators, investment attraction, and economic development in Alberta, as well as related ministries, agencies and crown corporations.
Full‑time permanent position, 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Work location is Edmonton or Calgary.
