** Calgary, Alberta The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the fast-paced Orphaning and Insolvency team and support the management of Alberta’s energy liabilities. To thrive in this role, you are a strong collaborator who works well under pressure, adapts quickly in a dynamic environment, and enjoys tackling new challenges. In this position, you will assist in delivering the AER’s orphaning and insolvency programs by working alongside regulatory professionals to promote, verify, and enforce compliance across the province.

The role provides valuable insight into the operationalization of several of the AER’s liability management programs, helping ensure the AER’s mandate is upheld. Responsibilities include coordinating, analyzing, and continuously improving regulatory processes related to defunct and insolvent companies within the energy sector.

Participate in activities such as data analysis, process mapping, and drafting proposals for improvement, collaborating with team members to ensure recommendations align with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to anticipate second- and third-order effects.

An effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills. Should an individual with the required qualifications not be available, applicants with closely related qualifications may be considered. As a result, the position may be redesigned and/or reclassified.
