Civil Construction Inspector, Rail
A casual, temporary, as‑needed position. There is no set schedule; the employee will be notified when work is available.
- Provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway projects
- Maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records
- Maintain daily photographic records, and videos as necessary to document contract activities
- Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment
- Complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements and expectations
- Monitor construction work to ensure compliance with contract documents and specifications
- Monitor the contractor’s compliance with health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation
- Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works
- Report to the Project Manager on onsite activities, concerns, and non‑conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution
- Provide mentorship to junior staff
- Liaise with client representatives, as required
- Act as client site representative
- Require working nights, weekends, and extended shifts
- Work may be seasonal in nature, as permitted
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with engineering or construction
- Previous experience working with CN Rail and CP Rail projects
- Previous experience working on municipal or provincial transportation projects helpful, but not required
- Ability to read and interpret construction design drawings
- Able to work weekends and nights, as needed
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently in remote locations
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
- Emergency First Aid & CPR certification
- Valid license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent (candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
- A minimum of 3 years experience
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
