About the Role
As part of HDR’s Field Services team, the Senior Construction Inspector (Highways and Roads) ensures that roadway and highway projects meet design, safety, and quality standards, supporting the delivery of resilient infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Provide construction inspection and construction administration on road and highway construction projects.
- Maintain accurate daily diary entries and complete contract documentation records.
- Maintain daily photographic and video records to document contract activities.
- Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment.
- Review and process contractor progress and final payment certificates.
- Conduct daily inspections in accordance with client requirements and expectations.
- Monitor construction work to ensure compliance with contract documents and specifications.
- Monitor the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation.
- Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works.
- Report onsite activities, concerns, and non‑conformances to the Project Manager and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Liaise with client representatives when required.
- Act as client site representative.
- Work nights, weekends, and extended shifts as necessary; may be seasonal and require work permits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering and/or relevant infrastructure construction experience.
- Minimum five years of roadway or highway construction experience.
- Experience on municipal or provincial transportation projects is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction design drawings.
- Capability to work weekends and nights when needed.
- Ability to work independently and in a team in remote locations.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Valid license with an acceptable driving record and reliable vehicle access.
- High school diploma or equivalent; candidates with eight years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma.
- Minimum of five years of experience in construction inspection.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
