Summary
Match Box Consulting Group is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to join a leading engineering consulting firm supporting transportation and municipal infrastructure projects throughout the Calgary region. This opportunity is available as either a permanent position or contract
, offering a unique blend of field-based construction work during the busy construction season and office-based technical work throughout the winter months.
Working as the Engineer's representative on site, you'll oversee construction activities, monitor contractor performance, ensure quality and safety standards are met, and collaborate with project teams to deliver successful infrastructure projects. During the winter season, you'll have the opportunity to expand your skills through cost estimating, tender preparation, drafting, and professional development.
Responsibilities- Perform field inspections on transportation and municipal infrastructure projects, including roadways, utilities, asphalt, concrete, earthworks, landscaping, street lighting, and related civil works.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with construction drawings, specifications, contracts, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Track construction progress and contractor schedules while identifying and resolving field issues.
- Prepare daily reports, site diaries, safety documentation, photographs, and construction records.
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, contractors, consultants, and clients throughout construction.
- Conduct field measurements and quantity tracking using survey equipment and AutoCAD/Civil 3D as required.
- Work independently across multiple project sites while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
- Support cost estimating, tender document preparation, drafting, and project planning activities during the winter months.
- Participate in company-sponsored technical and professional development training.
- Promote a strong culture of safety and quality on all assigned projects.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Construction Inspector,
or - Minimum 5 years of experience as a Field Engineer, Superintendent, Foreman, Construction Coordinator, Materials Tester, or similar construction leadership role.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Experience supporting transportation or municipal infrastructure construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and inspection practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak construction season, including occasional evenings or weekends.
- Experience working on City of Calgary or Alberta Transportation projects.
- AutoCAD or Civil 3D experience.
- Previous experience as a Contract Administrator or Project Coordinator.
- Surveying experience and familiarity with field measurement tools.
