Contract End – April 15, 2027

Are you a visual storyteller with a keen eye for detail? Do you have a passion for capturing moments that make an impact? We want YOU to lead the photo section at the NAIT Nugget, your campus news.

Join the Nugget team as the Photo Editor. The Nugget is NAIT’s student news; our job is to report on what’s happening on campus and share the student voice. An ideal photo editor will understand how a picture can tell 1000 words and be passionate about the ethical requirements of visual storytelling.

Responsibilities
  • Attend and capture campus events, sports games, tournaments and other citywide events as required.
  • Collaborate with contributors, section editors, and Editor in Chief to create visually stunning and cohesive content.
  • Enhance and retouch images to maintain consistency and elevate visual appeal.
  • Manage and organize our photo library, ensuring easy access and efficient workflow.
  • Stay updated with the latest photography and editing trends, tools, and techniques to keep our content fresh and innovative.
  • Represent the Nugget in an ethical and professional manner.

  • You're passionate about photography, visual storytelling or photojournalism. We're looking for a creative person who wants to help our articles shine. You don't need to be a professional, but you should have an eye for composition and a desire to keep learning and growing your craft.
  • You have strong ethics. Working in news means you care about the facts and believe in the importance of strong reporting. You understand that photos can tell a story as well as words, and firmly believe in accurately representing a moment in time.
  • You can work with tight deadlines. There are a lot of moving parts to a media machine, so we need someone that can constantly adjust and be flexible. We'll work with your schedule, but most of the work in this role is independent, so you should be a master of keeping yourself on task.

Compensation and Hours
  • Salary:
    Starting at $500 per month
  • Work Hours:

    Flexible hours with some requirements for mandatory meetings
  • Employment Term:
    August 1, 2026 to April 15, 2027
Qualifications & Considerations Eligibility and Availability
  • Must be a current NAIT student enrolled for the full 2026/27 academic year, until at least April 2027
  • Must be available for training during the first week of August; flexible work schedule for the rest of August
  • The ideal candidate has open availability and/or a flexible schedule to attend events on campus or in the city
Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge in photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.)
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently
  • Reliable and dependable to meet deadlines
  • Comfortable interacting with a diverse group of people and approaching new people
