Position: Communications Coordinator, O'Brien Institute for Public Health

Description

The O'Brien Institute for Public Health in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Communications Coordinator
. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Operations, the Communications Coordinator will support internal, community, and public communications initiatives that enhance the Institute's impact. Their work will play a critical role in knowledge exchange, ensuring that research reaches key audiences, informs policy, and drives meaningful change.

Summary of

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the production and development of innovative tools to increase communication and collaboration among members, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Writing, assigning or editing articles, event materials, brochures, fact sheets, reports, etc., and may be called upon to oversee the contracting out of such to external parties
  • The day‑to‑day management of the Institute's website and social media channels
  • Source out and supervise contract video work, in order to ensure the Institute's video needs are met in a professional, effective, timely and cost‑effective manner
  • Lead or assist in the planning and implementation of social media strategies on behalf of the Institute
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Institute meetings, seminars, and special events
  • Support promotion and co
  • Management of, and overall responsibility for, the Institute's communications metrics database
  • Maintain an intimate familiarity with all ongoing Institute communications efforts, initiatives and channels
  • Oversee the collection and management of Institute measure of success, such as statistics related to grants, awards and publications
  • Edit and publish the O'Brien Institute electronic newsletter
  • Contribute to the success of all O'Brien Institute communications, internal and external relations, and knowledge translation efforts
  • Advise on, and lobby for, changes to procedures and practices to increase effectiveness and efficiency of work area
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Post‑secondary diploma/degree in a relevant area such as communications, public relations or journalism
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of related communications experience
  • Highly developed organizational skills, augmented by a confident aptitude in the planning and generation of the total spectrum of communications tools
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing for a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Experience writing news stories, feature articles and digital content using Canadian Press (CP) style
  • Experience translating complex research and technical information into accessible, audience‑focused communications
  • Proficiency and experience with web publishing tools, such as Drupal, Word Press
  • Proven expertise in social media strategies and in managing social media channels
  • Proficient in the Adobe suite, including InDesign and Photoshop, will be considered an asset
  • Experience producing a variety of communications tools aimed at various or diverse audiences
  • Experience creating video content, including filming, editing and producing short‑form promotional and social media videos, is considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Experience planning, scheduling, carrying out and overseeing the conduct of communications tasks
  • Ability to adjust workflow and priorities to meet multiple demands and tackle key pressures
