Overview Sessional Instructor, Small Jazz Ensemble, Faculty of Arts & Science.

Ambrose University invites qualified applicants to submit teaching resumes for small jazz ensemble instruction. Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chair of Ambrose Arts and other Arts faculty, the successful applicant would be called upon to provide direction for a small jazz ensemble/combo, and support student learning through exploration of representative literature and styles, and development of musicianship and collaboration abilities.
Sessional music instructors are also encouraged to help recruit new students into the music degree programs.
Sessional faculty positions are contract appointments for specified terms (usually per semester or academic year) with no presumption of continuing employment.
Duties of Instructors will include:
Preparation and teaching of weekly ensemble practices
Evaluating student progress and assigning grades
Preparation of students for Ambrose Arts productions
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Master’s degree in Music; extensive professional experience may also be considered
Demonstrated success in post-secondary applied music teaching
Demonstrated experience as a team player and colleague in a music faculty
Proven skills in music performance (live professional performance, recordings, etc.)
Reside locally in the Calgary, AB region

Ambrose Arts exists as a department within the Faculty of Arts & Science as a home for degree programs, minors, diplomas, and elective credit offerings in the visual and performing arts at Ambrose University. Ambrose Arts works to internally elevate awareness of the Arts while fulfilling the external cultural aims of the institution in Calgary and the world. Interdisciplinary interaction is of high value within the department.
Ambrose Arts produces an annual performance season featuring student, faculty, alumni, and guest artists in music and dance, both on and off campus.
Music students enrol in one of three degree offerings:
Bachelor of Music (BMus) or Bachelor of Arts in Music (3-year concentration or 4-year major). A Music minor is also offered.
Music degrees feature study in history, theory, applied music, aural training, and additional courses specific to the student’s career and educational direction.
Applied music students normally specialize in classical or jazz.
Music ensembles include Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combo. Ensembles and soloists offer a variety of performances within the Ambrose Arts season (October to April) and also participate in other university or community events. Ensembles often feature the involvement of community musicians, reflecting the strong emphasis on collaborative work within Ambrose Arts.
Music graduates fill positions in churches, private music teaching, performing organizations, and music-related organizations, or continue their education in graduate and post-baccalaureate professional (e.g. Education) programs.

Compensation for applied instruction is based on a standard hourly rate.
In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
