Become a key voice of The New York Times as a full-time general assignment reporter based in Western Canada. Cover breaking news, trending stories, and features for diverse audiences.
The New York Times is in search of a passionate reporter in Vancouver or Calgary. This position focuses on major stories about politics, affordability, and extreme weather, while contributing to Canada’s broader narrative. You will report on significant news and collaborate across departments for comprehensive coverage throughout the newsroom.
Key Responsibilities:
• Report on major breaking news stories fitting NYT standards
• Identify and cover events and trends in Western Canada
• Experiment with innovative storytelling techniques
• Collaborate with colleagues across time zones
• Contribute to live coverage and major reporting initiatives
Requirements:
• 5+ years of reporting experience, preferably in Canada
• Deep connections within Vancouver or Calgary news sources
• Proven ability to write quickly and clearly under deadline
• Familiarity with diverse storytelling formats for digital audiences
• Fluency in at least one non-English language
