Position Description

The University of Calgary is seeking a visionary academic leader to serve as our next Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning. Reporting the Deputy-Provost, this pivotal role will create and implement a teaching and learning strategy to strengthen teaching excellence, curriculum development, and student learning experiences across all faculties. The Vice-Provost will lead institutional initiatives to advance pedagogy in the classroom for students and faculty, support faculty development, and foster a culture of action-oriented innovation and continuous improvement in dynamic times.

Working collaboratively with academic leaders, instructors, and support staff, the successful candidate will enhance the student learning experience through the implementation of high-impact educational practices, drive initiatives that enhance academic integrity, and transform UCalgary as the university of choice for the next generation of learners with a particular emphasis on leveraging digital technologies.

The Vice-Provost will also oversee key teaching and learning resources, ensuring alignment with the UCalgary's Ahead of Tomorrow  strategic plan, and ii' taa'poh'to'p, the Indigenous Strategy. Guided by evidence-based practices, they will convert knowledge into action to create and integrate digital learning initiatives and technologies across programs in collaboration with the campus digital learning strategy and information technology leaders. They will be highly accomplished at both recognizing, inspiring and managing change, with a demonstrated commitment to using evidence-based approaches to guide transformation in higher education teaching and learning.

A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, along with expertise in instructional innovation and learning assessment, is essential.

The ideal candidate will possess a doctoral degree with credentials that qualify them for a tenured appointment at the rank of full Professor or Teaching Professor, with proven leadership experience in advancing teaching and learning priorities at an institutional level.
