Why AUArts?
Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is situated on the ancestral land of the Siksikaitsitapi - Blackfoot Confederacy which includes the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani Nations and the shared territories of the Tsuut’ina Nation as well as the Iyarhe Nakoda-Stoney which includes Bearspaw, Chiniki, Good Stoney Nations and also the home of the Métis Nation of District 5 and 6. The City of Calgary has long been called Moh’kins’tsis by the Siksikaitsitapi, Guts’ists’i by the Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Nakoda.
The Alberta University of the Arts is one of only four major art, craft and design focused Universities in Canada. Our internationally recognized programs and state-of-the-art facilities offer our 1,100 students a hands-on, studio-based education that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Design, and an MFA in Craft Media. AUArts has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and our alumni have had an impact on creativity around the world.

The OpportunityAlberta University of the Arts (AUArts) invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach in the following subject areas in upcoming semesters:
- Game Design
Sessional Instructors will exhibit passion for creativity, innovation and continued commitment to their field(s) of expertise.
Sessional appointments are intended to augment and supplement instruction and programming and/or the pedagogical and/or research needs of the University beyond that which is provided by permanent faculty appointments. Successful candidates will be offered an engagement letter, which is not a contract for specific course instruction but a confirmation of eligibility for assignment of courses. A separate contract will be issued for specific course(s) as they are offered.
Sessional Instructors’ names will be retained on our Sessional Instructor list for the duration of their engagement letter, after which time letters may be renewed.
- A terminal degree appropriate to the field (ABD considered)
- Demonstrated experience teaching at the post-secondary level
- Evidence of an active peer-reviewed professional / research practice
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and in all aspects of academic life.
Applications must be submitted as a single PDF document and should address the candidate’s expertise in the areas of teaching, research, and professional practice; and include:
- A cover letter, clearly specifying desired program area(s) and relevant qualifications
- A statement of pedagogy
- For applications to teach in studio areas, a portfolio of 6-10 images of recent work. Links to websites are accepted and preferred
