About

The Role

The Faculty of Continuing Education, Conservatory, invites applications for Instructor, Speech Arts and Drama. The successful candidate will offer comprehensive speech arts and drama training to students in Speech Arts and Drama group classes and/or private lessons. The curriculum includes voice and speech development, interpretation and performance of literature, acting, public speaking, storytelling, mime, creative drama and choral speaking for children ages 4 and up.

The instructor will design lessons, select repertoire, recruit and retain students, and work collaboratively with the speech arts and drama coordinator to foster program growth.

Responsibilities
  • Create and deliver lesson plans for group classes and private instruction based on the Speech and Drama program curriculum.
  • Teach Conservatory Speech and Drama classes including Act Up Speak Out, Speechworks, and Speak Up Make Your Point.
  • Provide private instruction in speech arts for students aged 5 and above.
  • Design lessons, select repertoire, and contribute to student recruitment and retention.
  • Collaborate with the speech arts and drama coordinator to promote the program.
Qualifications
  • Expertise in speech arts and drama, including voice and speech development, children's literature, and performance styles such as verse speaking, acting, mime, public speaking, and storytelling.
  • Familiarity with the Speech and Drama examinations curriculum of the Royal Conservatory’s Certificate Program is an asset.
  • Bachelor of Arts, Theatre, or Education preferred (professional equivalency considered); experience working with young children; teaching experience; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; energetic and enthusiastic personality.
  • Conservatory training (ARCT) is a strong asset.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview and demonstrate lesson planning and instruction skills in a live teaching setting.
