Position: Faculty of Nursing, Assistant Professor (Teaching)

Assistant Professor (Teaching):
Limited Term

The Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary, invites applications for the role of Assistant Professor (Teaching). The position is designed to serve as an academic mentor and Indigenous academic coach for both rural and urban Indigenous students. This two‑year limited term will ideally commence March 1, 2026 and end February 29, 2028.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as an educator, facilitator, mentor, and academic guide to Indigenous students in the Faculty of Nursing.
  • Provides individualized coaching and mentoring to support Indigenous students’ academic success and retention.
  • Collaborates with course instructors to develop tutorials and support services tailored to Indigenous students.
  • Builds positive relationships with Indigenous students, Indigenous communities, and course staff.
  • Contributes to the Faculty’s Indigenous education activities, including Indigenous Strategy implementation.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related discipline and eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
  • Early career academic experience with evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching dossier).
  • Experience coaching and mentoring Indigenous students in clinical and academic contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with Indigenous students and Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with course instructors to develop course and term‑specific tutorials to foster student success.
  • Demonstrated evidence of relationship building to foster student engagement, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Experience with a variety of teaching modalities including classroom, clinical, and simulation.
  • Commitment to Indigenous education and culturally competent teaching.
  • Engagement in research and scholarship that informs pedagogy and curriculum design.
