Description
The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Sessional Instructor to teach a culturally-responsive section of Winter 2026 ACCT 217 LEC 08 (Introductory Financial Accounting: Indigenous Learners in Accounting) offered in partnership with the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) and AFOA Alberta. This section has been thoughtfully designed to meet the learning needs of Indigenous students and is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.
Classes in the Winter 2026 semester run from January 12 to April 14, 2026. Registrar Scheduled Exams will take place between April 17 to April 28, 2026, if applicable.
The calendar description of the course:
Introduction to accounting for business organizations. Reporting of financial results of operations and financial position to investors, managers, and others. Emphasis on the use of accounting information for decision making.
This course recognizes the importance of creating space for Indigenous learners within a Western academic setting and incorporates principles of respect, reciprocity, and relationality. The curriculum draws on CPAWSB’s Indigenous accounting materials and is tailored to support student success through a culturally-informed approach to teaching, learning, and assessment.
ACCT 217 (Introductory Financial Accounting) LEC 08 Tuesday/Thursday 17:00‑18:15 TUT 08 Fridays 14:00‑14:50
Qualifications- Completion of a related undergraduate degree is required;
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from Canada is required;
- Previous post‑secondary accounting teaching experience is recommended;
- Deep understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing Demonstrated Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and/or meaningful connections to Indigenous communities;
- A commitment to inclusive teaching practices that honour Indigenous perspectives and promote student belonging;
- Experience using digital education products such as Zoom and D2L would be an asset
