Position DescriptionSeeking an emerging scholar with a strong foundation in climate change research and its connections to the critical zone. Candidate will develop an original transdisciplinary research program addressing climate change through the lens of Critical Zone processes. Expected to generate new knowledge, methods, and technologies for sustainable solutions. Potential areas:
Earth surface processes, hydrology, nature‑based solutions, carbon cycling, weathering, geochemistry, ecology.
Candidate will supervise graduate students and postdocs, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, provide service to department, faculty, university, community and profession, support equitable, diverse, inclusive employment practices and add to collegial community.
Qualifications- PhD in Physical Geography, Earth Science, or related discipline.
- Strong research record in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Potential to establish a strong research program related to climate‑change and critical‑zone science.
- Potential to attract competitive external funding (NSERC or other sources).
- Potential to supervise, mentor and provide high‑quality educational experiences to diverse undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs.
- Ability to support positive student learning outcomes.
- Ability to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in Geography (soils, hydrology, biogeography).
- Strong oral and written English communication skills.
- Alignment with the University’s strategic plans.
- Cover letter (≤2 pages): research interests, accomplishments, vision, alignment with priorities, names/contacts for three referees.
- Curriculum vitae with publications.
- Research statement (≤3 pages): projects for first five years, methodology, equipment, funding, impact.
- Teaching philosophy (≤2 pages).
