Position Summary

The Faculty of Science, University of Calgary invites applications for a CRC Tier 1 Professor in Computer Science at either the rank of associate professor (with Tenure) or full professor (with Tenure) level, focusing on applied cybersecurity and privacy. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, sustainable, externally funded research program and contribute to teaching and graduate student supervision.

Protected

Research Time

Applicants will receive 60 % protected time for research, with the expectation of developing a high‑impact research portfolio. Teaching, graduate supervision, and departmental service are also part of the role.

Canada Research Chairs Program

Tier I Chairsitatem are tenable for seven years and renewable once. They are intended for outstanding, innovative researchers whose accomplishments have made a major impact in their fields and who are recognised internationally as leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead an externally funded, sustainable research program in applied cybersecurity and privacy.
  • Teach courses and supervise graduate students within the Department of Computer Science.
  • Provide service to the department, faculty, university, and community.
Qualifications
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely‑related field.
  • Either full professor or senior associate professor乔 near promotion to full professor.
  • Evidence of a record of high‑quality research, publication, and external funding.
  • Outstanding teaching and graduate supervision record.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research teams and engage professionally.
Preferred Areas of Expertise
  • Addressing challenges faced by critical infrastructure across key sectors (energy, finance, health, etc.).
  • Developing privacy‑enhancing technologies that limit or reduce unwanted tracking or marketing.
  • Applying secure software development processes to real‑world systems.
  • Deploying cybersafe systems in autonomy‑driven environments such as operational technology interfaces.
