Help inspire a love and curiosity for conservation in the next generation at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and help manage the biological art collections at one of Calgary’s most unique locations! The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking a fixed-term full-time Education Resource Assistant who will engage in general collection management tasks such as: accessioning and deaccessioning biological artefacts, conducting inventory entry and seasonal audits, database management, preparing program resource kits, and creating new teaching resources.

The Education Resource Assistant will contribute content to related training modules and assist with facilitation for staff, program participants and volunteers. This role supports related program monitoring and evaluation tasks including evaluation development, delivery and analysis.

What you will do:
  • Preparation and repair of specimens as needed, following proper sterilization and storage protocols.
  • Work alongside multiple coordinators to support program resource fulfillment and inventory audits.
  • Assist volunteers through training, program observation and daily task support including sourcing artefacts, digital sign‑out and any related paperwork.
  • Support the design and delivery of select training modules, for online and in‑person formats.
  • Support the creation of resource related evaluation tools along with related data collection and analysis.
  • Database management, including updating records with content and images, pull reports and train staff on how to support.
  • Coordinate department‑wide resource procurement and inventory management for items such as laptops, tablets, radios, youth program library, posters, banners, stationery, displays, etc.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies is preferred or related field or equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • At least one year of experience in Education, Archiving, or other related experience is required.
  • A Valid Standard First Aid Certification is required.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office, experience with Canva an asset.
  • Proficiency with Catalogit software is an asset.
  • Background in science communication preferred, comfortable with public speaking.
  • A keen interest in conservation and the natural world is essential.
  • Self‑starter, curious, and takes initiative.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • This position will require submission of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and irregular shifts.
  • Long periods of time on feet.
  • Good on‑site mobility.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs, pull a wagon of resources around zoo grounds.
