- Post‑secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities will be considered an asset.
- Experience and/or desire to work with youth and young adults.
- Experience in leading and running groups in multiple avenues (workshops, intramurals, art programs, after school programs, etc.).
- Knowledge and awareness of the youth and young adult demographic.
- Initiative and a strong work ethic.
- Self‑starting attitude, trustworthiness and dependability when working independently in branch.
- Strong team‑work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision.
- Critical‑thinking skills.
- Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Office, and Excel.
- Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed).
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations:
Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol. - Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search current within 1 year from any organization, with the ability to attain a new one directed to the YMCA Calgary within 3 months of starting.

- Work 20 hours part‑time for the Outreach department at the Shawnessy YMCA, offering support and positive experiences for high school students and young adults aged 14‑25.
- Independently deliver daily after‑school sessions in‑person from September to June for youth and young adults (Tuesday to Saturday).
- Possibility to support yearly summer programming for youth during July and August, dependent on available hours.
- Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student and young adult needs.
- Deliver programs that include sport, workshops, art programs etc. that meet the interests of the participants.
- Work within a team of Outreach Staff (Supervisors & Coordinators).
- Help organize special events for youth in surrounding high schools and organizations.
- Recruit participants through in‑school presentations and branch recruitment.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories.
- Support program evaluation.
- Build and maintain relationships with nearby schools and community organizations.
- Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Be based out of the Shawnessy YMCA.
- Provide branch support as needed for the Shawnessy YMCA branch.
