About the Role

The Department of International Business, Supply Chain Management & Aviation at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Business Law at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to develop/maintain an active research program. The primary focus will be on teaching business law courses in support of the BBA. The preferred candidate will be able to contribute to the design and delivery of courses in business law and related legal disciplines (e.g. employment, privacy, human rights, etc.).

The successful candidate will also be expected to develop/maintain an active research program. The ability to involve undergraduate students in research and attract external funding are valued characteristics.

In addition to demonstrating the potential for effective teaching and productive scholarship, the successful candidate will also approach their work in a way that demonstrates an awareness of issues related to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, and that supports an inclusive environment.

The successful candidate will hold a minimum of an LLB or JD, have an established or emerging program of research and be a member, in good standing, of a Canadian Law Society.

New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) focuses on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) focuses on teaching and service only. The successful candidate for this role will be hired into the teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS).

There is an option to change work patterns after tenure is awarded.

Qualifications

  • A completed Bachelor of Laws (LLB) / Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a completed Master of Laws (LL.M.), MBA or other related Masters degree. A Ph.D degree will be an asset.
  • Expertise in Canadian Business Law and related areas of legal practice.
  • Teaching experience in Canadian Business law at the post-secondary or professional level.
  • An emerging or established program of research.
  • Membership in good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
