Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Trainers/Facilitators (Roster Position)

ECO Canada is seeking experienced and dynamic trainers to join our roster of instructional professionals to support the delivery of short-format ocean micro-credentials in communities across Canada.
This is not a full-time position.
Qualified instructors will be added to a roster and may be engaged on a contract, as-needed basis to deliver 2–6 day, in-person training sessions using pre-developed curriculum and materials.
Compensation will be provided per session or per diem, depending on the course and delivery format.
These trainings focus on building applied skills in key areas of the blue economy, including coastal monitoring, restoration, and climate adaptation. Instructors will be added to the roster based on their relevant expertise and ability to deliver practical, engaging learning experiences.

Qualified instructors may be engaged to deliver one or more of the following micro-credentials:

  • Coastal Intelligence and Remote Sensing
  • Nature-Based Coastal Restoration and Blue Carbon
  • Coastal Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Planning

Delivery preference will be given to qualified individuals who can deliver multiple courses, licensed BEAHR trainers, EP’s (Environmental Professionals) in good standing, or accredited academic institutions.

This call is intended to expand ECO Canada’s capacity to deliver training across topics, regions, and communities. Inclusion in the instructor pool does not guarantee engagement for delivery, as opportunities will depend on program demand, regional alignment, and subject matter fit.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver 2–6-day, in-person micro-credential training sessions using pre-developed materials
  • Facilitate applied, hands-on learning using real-world examples, case studies, and discussion
  • Adapt delivery to reflect regional and community context while maintaining core learning outcomes
  • Engage participants with diverse backgrounds and experience levels
  • Collaborate with ECO Canada staff and/or co-instructors as needed
  • Provide feedback on delivery to support continuous improvement
Candidates should generally demonstrate:
  • Relevant experience in coastal, marine, environmental, or related fields (typically 3–5+ years)
  • Applied expertise aligned with one or more of the micro-credential topic areas (see detailed breakdown of micro-credential specific skills below)
  • Experience delivering training, workshops, or facilitating group learning (formal or informal)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into accessible, practical learning
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
Additional assets include:
  • Ability to deliver multiple micro-credentials
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or community-based programs
  • Familiarity with regional coastal issues or industries in Canada
  • Experience co-delivering or working in collaborative training environments
  • Willingness to travel to support in-person delivery

Equivalent combinations of education, applied experience, and community-based knowledge will be considered.

Micro-credential specific skills:
1. Coastal Intelligence and Remote Sensing:
  • Proficiency in QGIS and Google Earth Engine; experience with satellite imagery analysis, satellite-derived bathymetry, and coastal change detection
  • Background:
Remote sensing, GIS, marine science, or coastal engineering (3-5+ years)
  • Nice-to-have: GISP certification
2. Nature-Based Coastal Restoration and Blue Carbon:
  • Knowledge of blue carbon ecosystems (mangroves, seagrass, salt marshes), carbon stock assessment, and MRV systems; familiarity with Verra VCS / VM0033 methodology
  • Background:
Restoration ecology, marine biology, or environmental science (3-5+ years)
3. Coastal Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Planning
  • GIS, coastal flood modelling, and risk visualization; familiarity with IPCC frameworks
  • Background:
Climate adaptation, coastal engineering, or environmental planning (3-5+ years), with knowledge of Canadian policy frameworks

ECO Canada welcomes submissions from both individual applicants and organizations wishing to put forward qualified candidates.
