The Practicum Instructor provides direct educational support and mentorship to Early Learning and Childcare (ELCC) students during their practicum experience. This role involves teaching practicum-related content, conducting site visits to observe and assess student performance, and assisting in resolving practicum-related issues. This position is primarily student-facing and instructional.
Key Accountabilities- Teach practicum content and facilitate workshops to support practicum completion and student learning.
- Document student progress and participate in the evaluation process, including grading practicum assignments.
- Ensure that practicum learning outcomes are achieved in alignment with curriculum objectives and provincial standards.
- Develop and update instructional materials related to practicum preparation and completion.
- Participate in curriculum review meetings and contribute to enhancements of practicum course content.
- Assist in coordinating orientation and debrief sessions for practicum students to reinforce learning and gather feedback
- Diploma or Degree in Early Learning and Child Care, Education, or equivalent experience
- Qualifications related to Adult Education preferred
- Teaching and instructional delivery
- Assessment and evaluation of practicum student performance
- Strong communication and mentoring abilities
- Relationship building with students and external practicum sites
- Problem-solving and issue resolution
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and childcare standards
- Use of technology to support student learning and communication, including LMS such as Moodle
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in teaching or mentoring students in early learning and child care programs
- Experience conducting site visits and student assessments in practicum or field placement settings
- Knowledge of ELCC practicum standards, licensing, and certification processes
- Experience in providing constructive feedback and supporting student success during practical learning experiences
- Experience working collaboratively with educational staff and external partners
- Background in documenting and evaluating student progress in alignment with learning outcomes
