About the RoleThe Department of General Education invites applications for contract lecturer positions in the area of Community & Society for the Winter 2027 semester, commencing January 2027. The courses in the Community & Society cluster focus on the interconnections that constitute social life from the local community through the globalized network of societies. Through the study of material, moral, and political factors informing society at all levels, students will acquire skills enabling them to understand and act in the world they inhabit as citizens.
Instructors are expected to provide content on a relevant topic in an area they are experts in.
Conflict and the Social Context
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering this foundation level course examining "Conflict, whether personal, domestic or international, is one of the defining forces of society." Through an interdisciplinary framework, students will engage multiple interpretations and be introduced to various ways of thinking about the world they live in through an examination of a conflict in its social context. Each section of the course focuses on a different conflict, using distinct textbooks, assessments, and pedagogical methods to achieve the same course objectives.
QualificationsSuccessful candidates must have a minimum of an M.A. in a social science background or equivalent, with a Ph.D. preferred. We are especially interested in a qualified candidate with a well‑developed understanding of liberal education in general and who can identify and address key debates under the cluster’s thematic orientation, requiring the methods of the social sciences for possible responses or remedies to various global and social challenges.
