About the RoleNew Heights School & Learning Services (est. 1999), is a kindergarten to Grade 12 independent school serving approximately 125 neurodivergent students, including those with autism spectrum disorder and similar learning differences. Our approach builds on and engages each student’s strengths and interests to address developmental goals while teaching the Alberta Program of Studies.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorking collaboratively the Leadership Team, you will:
- Inspire and lead a collaborative school culture that prioritizes a safe, welcoming, and positive environment.
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader community.
- Serve as a visible and positive ambassador for the school.
- Establish a safe learning environment with clear learning goals for both students and teachers.
- Support program planning, team collaboration, and professional growth among staff.
- Lead teaching and learning excellence aligned with Alberta curriculum requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the Alberta Education Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) and support teacher growth aligned with the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).
- Oversee instructional supervision, classroom observations, staff evaluations, and professional growth plans.
- Use student achievement and wellness data to improve outcomes.
- Support differentiated instruction and specialized learning strategies.
- Provide oversight for individualized programming, inclusion strategies.
- Ensure DSEPS compliance requirements are met.
- Collaborate with families, specialists, and staff to support students with complex learning needs.
- Oversee documentation, funding requirements, and accountability processes related to specialized programming.
- Oversee daily school operations, staffing, scheduling, and student discipline.
- Support enrollment growth and family retention initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Leadership team on strategic initiatives.
- Ensure effective communication with parents, students, and staff.
- Maintain compliance with Alberta Education policies, safety requirements, and independent school regulations.
- Build strong partnerships with parents and community stakeholders.
- Help advance long-term organizational vision and growth initiatives.
- Master’s Degree and Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certification.
- Previous experience as a leader in an educational environment.
- Experience working with neurodivergent children, youth, or young adults.
- Strong knowledge of independent school administrative processes and Alberta legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Familiarity with the Alberta Curriculum and individualized programming.
- Self-directed, flexible, and highly motivated, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Skilled in strength-based problem-solving with innovative and collaborative approaches.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Warm, approachable, and committed to creating a safe, caring school environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
