Position: Teacher - Inclusive Education (including Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Visually Impaired )

Overview

This posting is for new applicants only and is not for current CBE teachers or substitute teachers already in a teaching position. Application is for teaching positions supporting inclusive education and specialized education programs (including Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Visually Impaired). Please apply for only one job posting. Two steps are required for the application process.

Step 1:

  • Copy of Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Pre-Certification letter from Alberta Education with Interim certification reference number and a letter from the university confirming your graduation
  • Practicum evaluation reports and/or Teaching evaluations as applicable
  • Note:

    Practicum/Teaching evaluations and reference letters must be signed and on institution letterhead. Unsigned letters and evaluations will not be accepted.

References:
Applicants who are considered for hire will be asked to provide references.

  • Recently graduated applicants or teachers who have fewer than five (5) years of teaching experience will be asked to provide three (3) email addresses for current or recent supervisors in an educational setting. This can include partner/cooperating teachers.
  • Teachers who have five (5) or more years of teaching experience will be asked to provide one (1) email address for their current or most recent supervisor in an educational setting.

Note:

for applicants applying to specialized postings (French/Spanish/Mandarin/German/Inclusive Education/Indigenous Education), it is expected that upon hire, this will be the primary area in which you will sub/teach.

Eligibility Position Description / Responsibilities
  • Under the guidance of the Principal and in compliance with the Education Act and CBE regulations:
  • Establishes clear objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Alberta Education, and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Prepares for assigned classes, and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request. Prepares materials for learning, and classrooms for activities, as appropriate.
  • Instructs using a variety of instructional approaches appropriate for grade level, student needs and program focus. Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
  • Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepares, administers, and grades a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct student records as required.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order and safety among the students for whom they are responsible, under the guidance of the Principal. Enforces all administrative policies and rules governing students.
  • Meets with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress. Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to discuss children's progress and resource needs, and to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems, as appropriate.
  • Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula. Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
  • Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve qualified competence. Attends staff meetings, and serves on staff committees as required.
