Part‑Time Nature Kindergarten Teacher

In 2015 CCES founded Calgary’s first Nature Kindergarten offering the Alberta Kindergarten curriculum through learner‑led exploration of the natural world.
It is a government‑approved and publicly‑funded kindergarten, in which children will spend the majority of their days exploring and learning in nature. It is the first in Calgary and one of only a few operating across Canada.
Nature Kindergarten Teacher– Job Description
- Have a Bachelor of Education
- Have an Alberta Teaching Certificate or Alberta Interim Teaching Certificate
- Have experience working with children aged 4‑6 years old
- Have experience and/or knowledge of working in an emergent curriculum environment and the Reggio Emilia philosophy
- Be flexible and look forward to responding to planning to changes in programming as the day requires - based on weather or the interests of the children
- Enjoy collaboration and working in a team planning environment
- Have knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum for Kindergarten
- Work effectively in cooperation with colleagues and students in a team environment
- Have knowledge and/or experience of Forest and Nature Schools
- Have the ability to work in Canada
- Have first aid certification
- Have or be willing to submit a current (within 3 months) criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- Be able to get to our school at Rosemont/Confederation Park
- Involve teaching a full day (9am - 3pm) Kindergarten class of 18 children
- Require evaluation and assessment according to the philosophy and deliverables of the organization
- Involve classroom documentation, organization and management including outdoor classrooms
- Involve carrying out risk/benefit assessments
- Invite open communication with parents
- Have daily and weekly team planning with other Kindergarten teacher and Educational Assistant and share in the responsibility for implementation of those plans
- Require spending the majority of each day in the outdoors in all seasons except in extreme weather
- Require being available 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Pay 0.6 FTE based on education and experience
- Begin just prior to the 2026‑2027 school year (end of August 2026)
