The Werklund School of Education, Undergraduate Programs, at the University of Calgary invites applications for term certain Sessional Instructor field experience positions for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027
.
Out of Area Placements
Out of Area field instructors support Community-Based Bachelor of Education pathway students residing in rural and remote areas.
Position Requirements- Ability to travel to students' community of placement
- Commitment to in-person visits for students, with supporting online meetings and supervision
- Access to a vehicle and appropriate insurance as detailed in the University's Driver Safety Standard policy
- Willingness to support students in communities both within travel proximity, and virtually with assistance from a local community partner
- Flexibility in travel range, with understanding that section distributions may change with student registration and associated locations
- Expect drives of at least two hours, with some overnight stays possible
- A completed doctorate in education; professionals with a master's degree will also be considered
- Five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary/secondary level preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with school and community members
- Ability to work effectively with groups of students in on-campus or online settings
- Ability to participate in team meetings related to the course(s)
- Ability to encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence‑informed practice
- Demonstrated history of ongoing professional development
- Recent experience as a partner teacher or school liaison preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of the undergraduate program in Education, and commitment to inquiry‑based teaching and learning will also be considered assets

Fall 2026 Courses of Instruction EDUC 540:Field Experience III [Practicum
- Out of Area Placements]
Students will engage in increased teaching experiences in a school setting under the guidance of a partner teacher, university field experience instructor, and the school leadership team.
Anticipated geographic regions for our Fall 2026 sections include:
- Instructor based in or near Grande Prairie, Alberta, supporting students in communities such as Peace River, High Prairie, and Whitecourt
- Instructor based in or near Lloydminster, Alberta, supporting students in communities such as Vermilion, Cold Lake, and Glendon
- Instructor based in or near Edmonton, Alberta, supporting students in communities such as Drayton Valley, Ponoka, and Sedgewick
- Instructor based in or near Calgary, Alberta, supporting students in communities such as Byemoor, Brooks, and Olds
- Instructor based in or near Lethbridge, Alberta, supporting students in communities such as Sparwood, Taber, and Mountain View
Typically, instructors who teach EDUC 540 must also teach EDUC 560:
Field Experience IV in the Winter term.
The Fall 2026 Field Experience III runs October 26th to December 11th.
Winter 2027 Courses of Instruction EDUC 465:Field Experience II [Practicum
- Out of Area Placements]
This block field experience will have major focus on the complexities of individual learning. Prospective teachers will have the opportunity to follow individual students through various classrooms within their assigned schools under the guidance of their university field instructors and partner school leadership teams.
