Position: Sessional Instructor, Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 KNES 201 Activity Lab - Faculty of Kinesiology

Description

The Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for sessional instructors in Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 for the following course: KNES 201, Activity:
Essence & Experience - ACTIVITY LABS. In KNES 201, which consists of a lecture and activity labs, students participate in various activities and movement patterns and the study of the fundamental factors that influence the activities we choose and the way we move. We are seeking applications for the following activity lab only: (1) track and field.

Activity labs are organized in 6-week blocks, as detailed below. All activity labs have two weekly classes, each 75 minutes in length. Instructors teach in two different lab time slots across the two activity blocks within a term. Track and field is currently scheduled as follows:

Fall Term
  • Block 1 - starts September 8 and ends October 16
    • Lab 2 - T/R, 9:30am to 10:45am
  • Block 2 - starts October 15 and ends December 2
    • Lab 3 - T/R, 11:00am to 12:15pm
Winter Term
  • Block 2 - starts March 2 and ends April 8
    • Lab 2 - T/R, 9:30am to 10:45am

In general, instructor responsibilities include: activity lab instruction; assessment and grading; creation and management of the activity lab D2L shell; ongoing communication with students, course instructor(s), and Kinesiology academic programs staff; and other assigned duties (as applicable). There are approximately 30 students per activity block.

Position Requirements
  • Earned at minimum a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or a related field; other educational qualifications will be considered alongside applicable certifications.
  • Advanced expertise in track and field as part of KNES 201.
  • Evidence of strong instructing of track and field, with teaching at the university level considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.

    • Qualifications related to teaching track and field.
    • Statement re: availability to teach in Blocks 1 and 2 in fall and Block 2 in winter terms.
    • Confirmation of availability for lab days/times based on the schedule listed above, for both fall and winter terms.
  • Current curriculum vitae.
  • For applicants who have not previously instructed in the Faculty of Kinesiology:
    • Teaching Statement and, if available, evidence of successful teaching.
