Position Summary
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary has an opening for a Sessional Instructor position to teach ENCI 699 Law for Project Managers in Fall 2026 (August 24 – December 24, 2026).
Course DescriptionLegal issues related to the effective management of projects. Introduction to the legal system and processes; environmental law; intellectual property, non‑disclosure, professional liability, contract law, strategic alliances, employment law, and the Builder's Lien Act. Cases are reviewed and students are expected to complete a number of assignments requiring research into case law.
Teaching ScheduleLecture 01:
Monday, Wednesday 18:00–19:15, throughout the term.
Deliver lecture‑based instruction, prepare and grade assignments, and provide student support during the Fall term.
Qualifications- Preferred: earned a law degree and registered member of the Law Society of Alberta.
- Alternatively: earned at least a master’s degree in engineering with demonstrated background in the subject matter; preferentially licensed to practice engineering in Alberta (APEGA or equivalent).
- Excellent teaching performance or potential, and availability throughout the term.
- Preference for Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
